Final approach to runway 25 (the locally favored calm wind runway) has high-tension wires with warning balls. Don't let that throw you, as they are well below the normal glide-slope, which is well-marked by the PAPI lights. Be prepared for some shifty air between the wires and the runway threshold for 25. You may have to make a few adjustments to your approach.
Be aware of proximity of Alexandria Field (N85) just a couple of miles away! Don't accidentally blow through their airspace at or below pattern altitude in a random direction on your way into or out of N40. Also take
N85 into consideration when deciding
how to enter or depart the area.
Be aware of Vansant airport (9N1)
just across the Delaware river. Vansant is a very active airport for aerobatic and glider pilots. It is common to see gliders and tows stacked up over the area, so when arriving from the West, keep your eyes and ears open.
Hot air balloons regularly launch from N40. Watch out for them coming up
from the trees on the north side of the
airport mid-field, and then downwind of the field. They will be out on most nice early mornings and in the evenings.
Quite a pretty sight.
There may be ultralight and no-radio vintage aircraft operating in the pattern. Pay attention to where you
are going.
The pattern can get quite busy at times and considerate operation and neighborly, standard pattern entries are appreciated by the locals.
